Helping to guide the parish’s mission
The Parish Pastoral Council
The idea of a Parish Pastoral Council is well established in the Catholic Church. Often known as a PPC, its purpose is to help and guide the parish community in her:
Worship of God in our celebration of the Mass and the Sacraments
Proclamation of the Word of God to all people
Witness to the love and redemptive healing of Jesus Christ
Service of those in need in both Church and in society
Clearly these tasks cannot be done by the clergy alone, nor by a small representative group of parishioners. It is the task of the whole parish, the community of the baptised, to communicate the saving power of God to all and to help each other grow in faith, hope and love.
It is the task of the PPC, guided by the parish priest, to discern (that is, to see the path that God is offering to us) what steps the parish might take in the coming months and years.
